LAMATA DEPLORES EXTORTION, PROSECUTES DRIVER

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) is in receipt of a trending video showing one of the drivers attached to the dedicated security team for the protection of transport infrastructure engaging in extorting money from a member of the public, alleged to have violated the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.

Investigations have revealed that the driver acted in concert with a police officer attached to the enforcement team, who has since been apprehended and suspended from the team. He has been handed over to the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, for disciplinary action according to his terms of engagement.

The driver has also been referred to the Mobile Court on Traffic Offences for prosecution for extortion.

Kindly be assured that the public would be given update on this case as the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration has zero tolerance for any misdemeanor which will pitch government operatives and enforcement agencies against the citizens.

Meanwhile, we appeal to the public to assist the agency by giving information that would help us stamp out corrupt practices in the enforcement of the BRT regulation by the dedicated security team.
